My students need a wide selection of books so that each and every student can find a book they will fall in love with.
This will allow my students to fall in love with reading!
Many of my students have zero books at home and others have lost all of their books (and belongings) due to Hurricane Harvey.
These books will expand the classroom library, allowing everyone to find a book that interests them.
Many books cover topics such as race and sports that I do not have in my library. Sports is one of my students biggest interest outside of school.
I can not keep copies of "A Child Called It" on the shelf as it is a very popular true story of an abused child told from the survivor.
Poetry is also lacking in the classroom library. I have requested classics such as my favorite, Shel Silverstein, and several modern poetry books filled with poems by minorities my students can relate to.
These books also include sets of books from classics to contemporary stories children can relate to so that I can incorporate literature circles in the classroom so students can engage deeper in books by discussing them and creating projects on their chosen books.
