I am a new teacher in a new Pre-School Links classroom, for children with autism. This is my students first education experience. While starting mid-year the city is unable to provide many of the things that could provide a great learnig experience. My students need a gross motor area in the classroom due to the lack of a playground on school grounds. I also need a lot of visuals as some of my students are non verbal. My students need supplies to help create interactive lessons, and visuals to help promote my student's communication skills. The new classroom is also still looking for furniture to make it complete. Of the things mentioned a gross motor area is of the upmost importance in order to strengthen their coordination, physical strength, and alertness (sensory processing).
