An early focus and exposure to college and career readiness is essential to all students, especially students of color who have the mindset that college is not for them. Having them see other students of color attending these schools, helps them visualize themselves on college campuses.
Students need to understand/believe that college (associates degree, bachelor’s degree), trade school, and military are options for them, that it is the norm not the exception. All children deserve to have a well-rounded education, but it is up to us the adults in their lives to make it happen.
This funding will help provide t-shirts college bound for 70 students from our school to wear when they go to the colleges and universities visits. The t-shirts, although not a necessity, hopefully will be a constant reminder that they are college bound.
