My students attend a wonderful Magnet school in a low income area in California. Although the school is designated as low performing and Title 1, the students, administration and teachers have worked hard to raise state test scores almost 50% over the last 10 years. The school serves a population of minority students, about 95% are Latino/Hispanic.
Our school does their best to provide resources for learning, but they just cannot afford to provide all the wonderful sources out there.
These students LOVE engineering class, especially the problem-based projects they get to find solutions for. This is the one subject I see my students come alive in. Many have expressed interest in pursuing engineering and architecture! careers. All of my students are interesting, intelligent kind kids that just need teachers who can hep them discover how interesting education can be and supplies to support this vision.
