My students need a classroom library full of books that they not only love but reflect their diversity and interest. In addition, adding a few more flexible seating options for them to use while enjoying their books will not only increase their ability to focus but also their interest.
"The more you read, the more things you will know, the more that you learn, the more places you'll go - Dr Seuss." During independent reading times, students will choose a location in the classroom that works for them. My plan is to have several seating options available. Making sure students are comfortable will ultimately increase their engagement. When my students are engaged, naturally, more learning will take place.
As adults, we all learn in different ways and over the years, we figure out how we learn best. But what about the students? They are taught to sit in their seat and pay attention to the teacher. Yes, we give them hands-on learning, carpet time and different teaching approaches, however, how can they learn what their true learning style is if not given the chance? Items like the Active Learning Stool, Wobble Cushions, and the Sitting Balls Chairs will help students that need movement-based sensory for their increased learning and attention span. The books help me create a classroom environment that encourages creativity as well as choice. As a second-year teacher, my library is limited and I would love to provide them with books on their reading level, that also sparks their interest.
