There are four language functions that students need to practice when learning a second language: reading, writing, speaking and listening. I am asking for high-quality headphones with voice recording capabilities so my students can practice their speaking and listening functions in Spanish.
With working headsets in my room, students will be able to interact with the target language in more authentic ways such as through watching news reports in Spanish or listening to music. Students will also use headsets to practice speaking, reinforcing their pronunciation and interpersonal communication.
My 5th and 8th grade students especially with utilize these resources because they take the Seal of Biliteracy exam in May 2020. This exam evaluates their proficiency level in Spanish by testing their skills in the four language functions. If a student tests into a high proficiency level, they will receive the Pathways to Biliteracy award and be recognized city-wide. These headphones will provide my 5th and 8th grade students plenty of opportunities to listen to authentic materials and practice speaking on specific subjects prior to taking the exam.
