Our students love to be involved with technology. However, we have very limited access. While we do have a technology enrichment class, this is only available once a week. There are some tablets available within my grade level, but need to be shared among approximately 75 students. This does not allow for each class to have access at all times. Some tablets are available within my own classroom; however some are not fully functioning or are locked and unaccessible.
With this donation, students will be able to have their own access to tech at all times. Many of my students do not have access at to technology at home, and therefore do not have access to beneficial math programs such as Khan Academy or IXL. With these tablets they will be able to have that exposure at least once a day within the classroom.
Khan Academy and IXL are great tools to allow students to have extra practice on some math skills and strategies. Some of these programs even allow for test prep. Not only will these tablets be beneficial for additional skill practice, but can be used for live formative assessment as will as summative assessments. It allows for students to engage in their education differently than simply relying on traditional paper/pencil and book strategies.
