I teach students that are Deaf and Hard of hearing. My class is very diverse in regard to learning styles and language development. All of my students use American Sign Language to communicate and learn. We focus largely on cultivating language growth while ensuring that they are amerced in a literacy rich environment. It is imperative that our Deaf/Hard of Hearing students have opportunities to excel in their education equal to their hearing peers. Many times that means using approaches which are targeted for their specific needs and relevant to them. My students enjoy hands on, interactive, visual lessons. My biggest wish is to cultivate a genuine love of reading in my students; that they will each move on from my class with confidence and a desire to read.
