This school year has confirmed that helping student stay organized, helps them have a better chance of succeeding in Math class. At the start of the school year I made it a requirement that students bring a 2 inch 3 ring binder and 5 dividers, all to be used for their math class only. It is now almost the end of the school year and time has shown that students benefit from having an organized math binder because it gives them quick access to previously learned material. Even though having a binder has been very help for them, I have encounter two main issue: 1) students do not have the money to get a binder or 2) they bring a binder that is too small which after a month or so can not hold all their papers from my math class. Thus, I have provided at least half of the students with a binder. This is the reason why I am asking for the binders and dividers.
In regards to technology, my class is staying behind with all the math websites that are available online and that can be used at schools to keep the students engaged at all times because there are not sufficient laptops for the whole school. This is the reason why I am asking for the Chromebooks. I would like to mix up the way the students see and practice math. Up to today students only get to see math via my lessons (on the screen with a projector) or on the white board. In regards to practicing math, the students only get to practice it on paper. This means they do not get to practice math via any of the websites like KHAN Academy, IXL, and VirtualNerd.
