Many students in the school do not have access to instruments because their families cannot afford them. In addition, there are students that would like to participate but are afraid to even talk to me or their parents because of the money issue. By providing instruments available for them to use for free, we will increase participation in the band program and help the students feel more successful in school.
Our school does have a supply of instruments for students to use but due to the number of students wanting to participate in the band program, they are almost all being used. Compared to previous years, this years beginning band had 20 more students join, the majority of them need to use school instruments. At this rate, we will not have enough instruments for next years beginning band students who cannot buy or rent their own instruments.
