After the grueling state standardized testing in mid-April, I am hoping to reward my hardworking kids with a novel study of S.E. Hinton's "The Outsiders." Many of my students will be able to connect to this book in ways that they might not have experienced before thanks to characters, settings, and situations they are familiar with in their own lives.
Many of my students almost brag about how they "haven't read a book since 4th grade." It's time to change that. It's time to get these same students excited about reading for the first time in a long time. And much more importantly, keep them excited about it.
