Flexible seating in our kindergarten classroom will create an environment where students learn best. I noticed that a lot of my students prefer to lay on the ground or kneel at a desk to work. I prefer to sit and work on a couch, not in a hard, plastic chair. The students will have a choice in where they sit to work.
Not only will flexible seating give students a choice of where to work, it provides a comfortable place to collaborate, learn, and discover.
Flexible seating will also help my energetic five-year olds get out some energy, which will help them focus and be more successful. They can use the wobble stools at a table, so they can move as they work. Or they can take a large pillow anywhere in the room to sit or lay on. The couch will also offer a cozy spot to read.
