Within the items listed for my project, there are many novels that would be used for students to have their own book clubs during class. I have learned that my students are really interested in history and are unfamiliar with many historical events. When I talk about things that have happened throughout history they are always eager to learn more. Historical fiction books clubs will allow them to read about different historical events through the eyes of characters who are around their age. My hope is that students are able to form connections with the characters within the texts. Groups will be reading different events throughout history and can share their experience with different groups.
Book clubs engage and create discussion among my students. In addition to historical fiction novels, I have added science fiction and fantasy novels to create new book clubs later on in the year. I believe it is important to introduce students to different genres to peak their interest in different novels. So far my students have read realistic fiction and poetry novels as a group. These novels will add alot to my students learning for the remaining of the year. Also, my students will learn to work with their peers and make connections with topics they are interested in!
