Theater is the single most valuable place where kids can explore the endless possibilities of their imaginations, and what they can do. Navigating through a theater world is daydreaming in motion. It can be a wondrous and nurturing place to grow. There are many benefits in being involved. The students will enhance their creativity, practice morals, build self-esteem, learn focus, improve memory, and work together in a cooperative manner. These skills will help make them more confident, productive individuals in life.
This play is an open concept, adapted to require the fewest props, costumes, and set pieces as possible.
The audience will surround us as we perform. There will be constant movement in and out of the play area, and the coat racks will serve as costume-holders during the performance. The other items requested will serve as the props and costumes for the production. The cloth will be used to indicate wind. The cast members will billow it around to give a storm effect. The cymbal and triangle will be used to add dramatic sound effects to the show. The two children playing Toto will wear dog ears and tails as their costumes. The Wicked Witch of the West will have a hat, telescope, and mop. When the Great Oz is revealed as a meek man, he will wear a bowler hat and glasses. Our goal is to help the audience use their imaginations during our production!
