"This interactive notebook is awesome, and beautiful!"
In addition to their electronic Google resources, my 7th grade ELA students also rely heavily on a tangible notebook/binder of resources, which educators refer to as the interactive notebook. This elaborate and visual reference, which holds our curriculum notes from September to June, has proven to be extremely helpful especially for my basic skills and inclusion students who need "somewhere" to go or "something" from which to study.
And interactive notebooks are not just regular notebooks or writer's notebooks; they are full of colorful templates that reinforce skills and devices. When completed they are an enormous middle school study guide for reading and writing, and that is why they are gaining in popularity. Often the templates or graphics are self-made, but I would like to add to our tool kit with handy workbooks. Printable materials like these are gold to both teachers and struggling students.
