My students have behavioral challenges and need a safe area to calm down when they cannot manage their emotions. I have used bean bags in the past, but those tend to encourage students to sleep and check out, avoiding their emotions. With the video chairs, rug and sensory toys, students will have a space to calm down and refocus without avoiding the behavior.
Calm Down areas have proven to help students return to work faster and avoid physically dangerous behaviors that could hurt themselves or others. These areas are used as a brief break before a student escalates to more aggressive behavior. It's a brief break to reset and then continue their academic day.
