Not all students can manage their behaviors at recess. Yoga mats in our counseling center will allow us to offer an alternative to outdoor (traditional) recess where students can relax, learn mindfulness, and have a safe space at school.
When students can control their own breath and body, they feel safer and are able to make better decisions with regard to their behavior. They will better understand their emotions and be able to react in healthier ways when they are confronted with challenges as well as have a more full box of tools to respond to situations that they experience at school and in their communities.
