Students have not had access to suitable materials to investigate the mass of objects. One physical property of matter is that it has mass and that it can be measured using a balance scale. The goal of this project is to have students using the lab materials they need in order to investigate this property. A balance scale is needed to not only investigate the physical property of mass in matter, but this knowledge is also needed to apply to other science investigations with living things (such as animals) and non-living things (such as rocks). Lab tools such as a balance scale enable students to find information, well, data. The students understanding of the use of this important lab tool is essential to becoming a critical and analytical thinker with data.
