The books that I am requesting for my students will serve as a starting point in accomplishing not only our campus goal for literacy but also our classroom goal. These books will be placed on the bookshelf in the classroom. Once a week, the students will partake in Silent Sustained Reading [SSR] where they read silently for an entire class period.
In addition to SSR days, as a class, we will conduct 'book chats' where the students will either partner, group or talk in front of the class about their book and what they like about it. Book selections will be completely student choice and hopefully, reflect their interest. In addition to this, I am also requesting a class set of 'The Great Gatsby' that students read every year. The current set of books have pages missing or are scribbled in, which result in difficulty in effectively completing our 'Great Gatsby Unit.' By creating a classroom library, I will be able to provide my students the safe space and resources to discover or re-spark their interest in reading. I know I can't do this alone and I truly need your support to make this happen for my students! Thank you!
