Support Mrs. Lako's classroom with a gift that fosters learning.
Learning to express our emotions is an important part of becoming a good friend and in creating leaders in the classroom and at home. My classroom teaches children these skills through active hands-on learning, reading books and by modeling social skills.
My plan is create a "safe place nook" where the students can go when they need a place to take some time alone, and they can help themselves feel better. When they feel better they will make better decisions about taking care of themselves and others. This is not a time out area. I will have books, a mirror, sensory bottles, squishies, and other ways for the children to have a calm body and mind. When they begin preschool, many of the children can only identify a few emotions such as happy or sad. The books and games will help them identify other emotions such as surprised, angry, and frustrated. This will facilitate higher order thinking and better management of their own emotions. I will provide a loving and safe environment for my students to learn and grow.
