Giving students the hands-on experience of exploring mathematics through collaborative experiences is crucial to fostering their need to apply what they learn to real world experiences. These materials will open up a large array of possibilities to meet those needs. I have found that students learn best when their creative abilities can be combined with the mathematical skill sets I am working with them to discover can be combined. Providing them the platforms to create, discover, learn and appreciate mathematics is one small way that the community can invest in the futures of our greatest resources, our students. I have requested 2 iPads to allow the students a mobile hub with which to gather and analyze data and create a thoughtful mathematical summary of their results through the use of apps and other available programs. The headphones are to be used in conjunction with chrome carts available to our school. These would replace the cheaper, yet very unsanitary earbuds currently available. The expo markers are used by my students on collaborative workspaces (usually the lab tables in the room). This allows students to work together on problems which are usually hindered by the traditional pencil and paper. Thank you for considering this project!
