Research tells us that listening to proficient readers read a book models fluency and helps English language learners increase their vocabulary. For Kindergarten and first grade students, vocabulary development is essential for acquisition of phonemic awareness and phonics. Most of the parents of my students are not proficient in English, and therefore are not able to model reading in English to their children as they are able to do in their native language.
For those reasons, I would like my Kindergarten and first grade students to be able to take home every day a read-along book (book+CD) that they can enjoy, and that will enrich their vocabulary, facilitate their English language acquisition, and help them become proficient readers. To be able to do this, I need to have a library of read-along books that my students can choose from.
Please help my English language learners to become better readers by giving them read-along books they can take home and listen to as many times as they want to.
