This project will give students the skills to graft plants with woody stems to and apply a type of cultivation technique that is a dying art. My students will learn how to cultivate roses and fruit trees through grafting. All rosebushes and fruit trees will be provided by the Southmoreland Greenhouse as part of the this project. The plants will be placed on school grounds and will be grafted for years to come. This project will impact a minimum of 100 students and will be continued for 20 plus years. This project will give students the confidence that they can impact their environment in a positive way. Students will have the skills to pass on to their children. This is an easy cultivation technique that was frequently done 100 years ago that became extinct. Let's bring it back! We can create variety without GMO's!
