A slab roller is used to flatten large amounts of clay at one time. In my Elementary art room I spend a lot of time preparing clay slabs by hand rolling them to be used for a variety of projects with our students. The timing is crucial though so that the clay is workable for the young student’s hands to manipulate and so that becomes an issue in preparing the clay in advance. The use of the slab roller would speed up this process and I would be able to roll the clay out seconds before students would be using it which would also prevent me spending hours hand rolling out slabs.
Clay is by far most students favorite art material to use and often is welcomed with an outburst of cheers on clay days. However, clay can be hard to offer more than once a year due to the costs of supplies and also the cost of the equipment to make it more easily prepared for such young students. With this clay slab roller I will be able to offer clay quicker and easier to our students. Due to the cost of this equipment it is something I couldn’t possibly be able to purchase within my budget.
