This project will reach 65 fifth grade students in Memphis, TN. Nearly all of my students are from low-income households and often do not have children's books or magazines in the home.
The magazine that I am requesting is well-written, informative, and exciting for children. It features articles written by children, for children about issues that both interest and affect them.
Magazines also allow students to have easy-to-transport literature of their own to read for knowledge and information, as well as for enjoyment.
The magazines I've chosen will inform students of current events around the world. With the "connectedness" of the internet and social media, students need a safe and reliable place to learn about events that are happening around the world, as well as, what may be happening in their own cities, towns, and neighborhoods.
