Our students do not have a lot of access to grade appropriate chapter books outside of school. They are not able to practice independent reading, or even enjoy reading a novel. Having these books in our classroom will allow us to create mini book clubs. This will become a part of our daily literacy rotations. Having small groups of students reading the same book will create rich conversations on what they are reading and motivate them to complete the book.
The titles selected for purchase are books that past students have enjoyed reading and sharing with each other. The goal is for students to get excited about reading which will ultimately create readers who are more fluent and improve student comprehension. We need the resources to make reading fun again!
