I will be working with multiple classes and teaching under staircases, in closets, and corners of classrooms. The mini projector will be used to move quickly form class to class to show visuals of new vocabulary and will also be used to teach new content through song and dance. For example, we sing "head, shoulders, knees, and toes, " to learn the body parts. Having a visual will make it easier for my students to learn the words in English.
These activities increase students ability to practice speaking in a safe environment and bring them confidence when they return to their general education classroom. These hands on manipulatives incorporate the Kindergarten Academic Content as well as prepare students for the WIDA test. Students needs to know community-helper roles, food vocabulary, animals names, colors, and also need time to practice speaking.
Not only are students practicing their English, but they are also learning how to interact with other students socially. Sharing, taking turns, listening to others, facilitating group work, are just a few of the many social skills to add to my student tool kit.
