Creative Lego sets will help my first graders to think about their learning in multiple ways, develop their fine motor skills, and improve their concepts of science and engineering. With these sets, my students will be able to use them in all subjects.
In language arts, students can make a story come to life by building the setting and characters of the story and retelling it to a classmate. In math, they can improve their number sense and use the Legos to help solve story problems. Students will be able to talk about math and question each other while using the Legos to explain their thinking.
Students will also have the opportunity to explore their understanding of science concepts and engineering by using Legos in many ways in the classroom. Science and engineering are the growing industries of my students' futures, but there is less time to teach these topics. However, by bringing Legos into the classroom, my students will have an opportunity to work on these areas while learning everything else they need to as well.
