My students need 48 copies of Persepolis: The Story of a Childhood. One of this issues my students struggle with the most is academic conversations--especially about sensitive topics like religion, race, and tolerance of other lifestyles.
Because my students read at vastly different levels, this text will allow all students to access content in order to discuss deeply relevant topics with other learners.
The rationale for personal copies is to allow students to fully mark up the text in order to make references during an academic conversation. Most students have demonstrated this with Post-It notes, but personal copies also create a personal connection with the written word (and positive memories with a school-based community).
