Technology is playing a larger role in educating our students each year, and the schools budget does not always meet this demand. As an intensive reading class, our students use an Online Curriculum as part of the class in which they are also credited with an Online Learning credit which is a graduation requirement. Each reading class is only allotted 5 or 6 Chromebooks in which students rotate use during the week to complete lessons on the reading program.
While this is great, it doesn't provide the opportunity to use them for other learning opportunities. With an additional 10 Chromebooks, my classes would be able to use them to increase collaboration with the use of Google Apps, where students can collaboratively complete activities/assignments in real time using a single document. I would also have the opportunity to monitor work as it is being completed through these shared documents and provide live feedback.
Additional chromebooks would additionally support individual vocabulary development through the use of online material that we just simply can not accomplish now with limited devices. My goal for each of my students is to get them closer to a level in which they will be successful on state reading test required for graduation. Additional technology will afford me the opportunity to better meet the needs of each student where they are by personalizing their work more than I can do with paper and pencil.
