These books will make such an impact on my students. While 5th graders aren't apt to pick up a picture book as their independent reading book, I want them to know that picture books are GREAT. I have challenged myself, and my kids, to read a picture book a day this year. That's 180 picture books that will engage and excite my students. That's 180 opportunities to make reading fun. That's 180 or more beloved characters that remind my students' of themselves. I want my kids to LOVE reading all things.
With these new books, my students will have access to unique topics and interests.
My hope is that through this challenge we grow as a classroom community to be more knowledgable, more empathetic, and more willing to read "outside the box" of chapter books to find joy.
