"It Is Not The Mountain We Conquer But Ourselves"
This project allows our students to do what other students can do on their own. Our students need extra support to participate in some of the activities that are easy for other students. Students with cognitive disabilities, students who have physical disabilities that make it difficult to participate in what is considered the normal way to do physical activity obviously require extra support and attention. The program you helped to fund allows them to do it with assistance from volunteers. This skiing program, in particular, helps our students who are uncomfortable with many outdoor activities, especially winter activities, to learn how and grow in their abilities.
Thank you for supporting our students being able to participate in a program that they so enjoy and get so much from.鈥
Students will benefit from this resource in that it gets them out in the community and teaches them a way to have fun in a healthy way. Many of our students have joined the Special Olympics skiing team because of this experience. Some outcomes and benefits they will get from this activity are: healthy activity, making new friends, learning a new activity, getting out in the outdoors and feeling a sense of self-pride in trying and experiencing a new task.
