My students will use these Orff instruments when composing their own musical arrangements, working on assignments in small and large groups, and creating sound effects for story books. This will also help students identify notes in a C Major and F Major scale, as well as different types of chords, harmonies, and melodic patterns that can be played with these instruments. These instruments, including the xylophone, glockenspiel, and metallophone, also enforce Carl Orff's theory of musical play and exploration. Most importantly, these instruments will help students with other subjects like ELA and Math. For example, students will be reinforcing their math skills by learning to play quarter, eighth, whole, and half notes, which can easily be applied to fractions. Students will be reinforcing their ELA skills by learning about new vocabulary terms and using these instruments as "sound effects" that can be added to poems, short stories, books, and other literature.
By bringing these instruments into the classroom, the students will be even more excited about coming to music class and will be a huge motivation for the students to behave during class.
The students will be able to play and explore musical instruments that they have never been exposed to before, improving their fine and gross motor skills, preparing them for the future and inspiring them to someday play a musical instrument.
