My students love books, and it will greatly motivate them to read chapter books knowing there are ones they will love in the classroom library. Reading the first in a series of Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Who Was, or International Biographies books will not only give the kids an on level concrete example of what reading should look like, but then allow the scholars to practice on their own.
Although having all their resources on their laptops, students need in hand reads as well. Each day my scholars are learning about the culture around them. The books included will also widen their scope of understanding. We will use the flip book when exploring these reads, and take them to another level while practicing research skills.
Being a second year teacher, I really lack the literacy resources needed to provide my students with what they need to be successful. The charts and literacy cards will help me connect with parents and allow students to practice at home using proper grade level resources.
