If you're six, you are not made to sit still. You are not made to conform to little rows, of little desks, for long hours. In our classroom, we move, we wiggle, we learn. But we still have times when we need to sit and focus. The rigid chairs are unforgiving and suddenly these little movers are stuck with their energy waiting to explode. I encourage students to stand or pick a comfy place to work, but ideally my seating would be changed, adapted to fit the needs of the students. Each child deserves the chance to be successful, and if something as simple as a kinesthetic stool is what makes the difference, then they need it. My goal through your generous donations is to create a learning environment that conforms to the needs of the child, not the other way around.
