One of the most successful strategies I use in my classroom is hands-on learning that challenges my students. Oh, and if there's a competition, even better. If I can accomplish these two things while also encouraging my students to learn the material, then I consider that a success. This upcoming school year, I'd love to use a really awesome new activity called a Breakout Box. If you've ever been to an escape room, then you essentially get the gist. Instead of random clues, however, the clues relate to the content that we have learned. In order to break open the boxes or pouches, the students will have to use their knowledge of the content and work as a team to work through clues related to biology.
Not only could this help motivate struggling students, it will help build skills that they will need as adults. I, and I know my students will too, appreciate your consideration for helping to fund my project!
