The Lost Boyz and Bellez Mentoring Club is a program for 7th and 8th grade boys and girls. The Lost Boyz is an all-boy group which focuses on issues specific to boys, and the Bellez is an all-girl group which deals with girl issues. Additionally both groups teach the students how to be successful students. They learn many skills including organization, time management, dealing with both the demands of teachers and the different personalities of their teachers.
Each student needs a coach, counselor, drill sergeant and champion in his/her corner. This is what myself and my co-teacher are to these students. We are there to listen to them, advise them, sometimes nag them and most of all love them. Each Boy or Belle checks in with us daily to make certain that all is good. We also provide after-school homework help and have monthly meetings at which we discuss various teen-related issues. The goal of the mentoring club is not only to assist the students in graduating from junior high but we want to prepare them for high school, college and life.
