Having two iPads would allow for more differentiated instruction and more flexibility to group students for independent work and direct instruction.
There are amazing apps that can support the Orton Gillingham reading method. The iPads would allow me to differentiate my groups immensely. Servicing students with an IEP typically means there are very different ability levels in one group. Having iPads would allow me to send students to complete work independently so I can then target different students on their own level of work within a small group. I would have the flexibility to address multiple areas of difficulty by breaking the group into even smaller groups. Plus, using an iPad teaches through a different venue of learning. Technology keeps students engaged. Also, many of the apps allow for assessments which help with progress monitoring.
Having magnetic word builders and phonics stamps with fill-in-the-blank templates would be additional multisensory activities that would be very engaging to kindergarteners through to my second graders. These products would allow for more practice building words in a different kinesthetic approach.
