Kindergarten is all about hands-on learning. When children are motivated and engaged in tactile and kinesthetic activities, they are more likely to better retain the skills that have been taught. In kindergarten, children learn through play. How fun would it be to "fish" for sight words in the water table or dig for letters in the sand to build c-v-c words?! The sky is the limit for creating sensory experiences for the children by using other materials besides sand for the table. Salt could be used as "snow" in winter and leaves could be used in the fall. Cross-curricular connections can be made to enhance the learning experience for the children.
The magnetic and dry erase board allows for another type of tactile experience for the children to build literacy skills. The stand can also be used to hold poems and charts to be used as references for the children for center work.
