The goal of this grant is to provide children with musical experiences k - 2nd grade by learning to play a musical instrument and experiencing grade-level music standards in a fun way within a regular classroom setting.
I aim to maximize music opportunities for students using a class set of pbuzzes to create classroom music-making lessons, where all students, in a class, work together to write/create original music and to perform contemporary music.
These instruments would be used weekly with 11 different classes for students k-2nd.
Students k - 2nd will: become proficient at playing pbuzz notes in the key of C and G, be able to improvise a solo over a track or group using at least three different notes and rhythms of their choice, and use pbuzzes in performances for their peers and in the shows including our school-wide Rock and Roll Day.
The slide on this instrument also makes it easy for even k-1st grade students to have success in playing this instrument because no fingering skills are required in order to be successful.
I will deem this project a success if:
Students demonstrate a joy and an interest in making music.
Students become proficient at making a buzz and various notes on the pbuzzes, and are able to connect notes together playing and creating songs.
Students are able to improvise and perform contemporary music on the instruments.
250-300 students have been given the opportunity to become proficient at a wind/brass instrument in the year 2020.
And if the instruments are used in both practice and performance settings.
