I teach at a Focus Title I school in Dallas, Texas which is one of the lowest 10% of Title I served campuses in the state based on performance in reading and mathematics. At my school, more than 75% of students receive free breakfast and lunch. But we do not allow their disadvantages to define them or their education. Despite the difficulties that plague their home lives, my students are resilient, strong, and inspiring. Knowing that they are loved, valued and supported, they are able to come into my classroom each day ready to give it their all. We start every day by reminding ourselves, in every aspect of our lives, no matter what challenges come our way, no matter what people may tell us, "I can do anything I put my mind to!" And we BELIEVE IT!
