5th grade science has a huge focus on the form and function of systems. Hatching chicks, while learning all about the form and function of the various body systems will make for an engaging science unit (I have a plan for the chicks once they are hatched, so that is not a worry). Students will create a PBL project by designing a chicken coop, and reporting on the price, area, and perimeter of the coop. This project will increase student engagement, as well as give them a hands on, real world application for the math and science standards. The books are for my classroom library, as being a first year teacher means that I do not have many..YET! I am hoping to stock more high interest intermediate leveled book in my classroom library
