We have limited time in the classroom for students to read the assigned text after mini lessons and with limited amounts of paper backs, students often have to share when we do author studies. Jerry Spinelli is a prolific author and each year we do an author study based on his novel Maniac Magee. Each student should be able to bring home a companion novel home to read and enjoy. They need to learn how Spinelli weaves his stories together in all of his novels. Jerry’s many titles are used in this study, such as Stargirl, Wringer and Smiles to Go.
