Due to my experience from years of teaching at inner city schools, my principal gives me the challenge of working with students that are academically below level and/or have behavior challenges. Working with these kids is the hardest thing I've ever done, and yet very rewarding. I have seen my students make amazing changes and grow in many critical areas, whether it be academically, socially, or emotionally. As a teacher, I need to make sure I'm always one step ahead of them, by providing enriching activities that encourage them to want to learn as well as interact positively with their piers. Currently I am teaching 1st grade, with experience in K, 1, and 2. First graders come to school eager to read and many struggle and consider themselves a failure. I make it my mission to erase negative thoughts by teaching the very basics of reading in an intense, positive, structured environment across all subjects.
