This project focuses on creating a flexible, SEL focused learning environment for credit recovery students in high school social studies courses. With the loss of learning associated with the Covid 19 pandemic, this class has become increasingly important in providing students with the opportunity to regain ground as they work towards diplomas. Perseverance, growth mindset, hope, and resilience are imperative to students who are working to recover from missed academic opportunities. A classroom environment that supports these efforts is imperative! As a group, we are working on building academic skills, setting and reaching goals, and making progress towards graduation. This funding project centers on supporting those efforts through flexible seating options to make available for students as they work on learning opportunities through identifying personal learning strengths as well as areas of growth. To this end, I have requested funding for materials to help build this environment in my proposal here. These materials include options for flexible seating as well as organizational supplies and materials for differentiated learning methods- specifically those geared toward supporting students who are working to prove mastery of NACS for Social Studies by practicing a variety of study skills and note taking methods that can help students to succeed in credit recovery courses.
