My students are high school students in a district 75 population, which mean this school only caters to those with special needs. This is ranging from emotionally disturbed, autistic , physically limited and learning disabled. My students are amazing, they love life and the absolutely love music. Last year I had a challenging bunch and wanted to incorporate something new to help them stay on task and manage their own behavior. When I started to do breathing techniques and Zumba dancing it helped them to release energy and have fun. Unknowingly this helped aid their instruction and we had a more productive and progressive rest of the year. The incorporation of dance was so successful in that class that we won the science fair and other classes wanted to do dance as well. The students become more engaged, active and happier overall.
