I teach a self-contained special education English class for eleventh and twelfth graders. My twelve students make up a very diverse group of inquisitive, gregarious, enthusiastic learners. Despite the fact that they are reading and writing anywhere from 3-10 years below grade level, they love to work together to break down, discuss, and analyze grade level text. Learning in my class is usually loud and involves lots of laughter. My goal is to prepare all students, despite their disabilities and academic histories, for success after high school by reinforcing critical reading, writing, and social skills, as well as instilling a love of literature.
