Every student should have a properly working bow, shoulder rest, rosin, and a cleaning cloth in their case. Currently, the students are using bows that are in very poor condition and foam sponges in lieu of a proper shoulder rest. They do not have access to their own rosin which is essential to developing a great tone. They also do not have access to cleaning cloths which will prevent rosin build up and is essential for maintaining a properly working instrument.
A new bow and shoulder rest will have an immediate and dramatic effect on my students technical and musical development. All of the materials in this project will be used on a daily basis. By having the students apply rosin and cleaning their instruments on a daily basis allows the students to take ownership of their own instruments. This will help them develop a routine and teaches them about cleanliness and maintenance that can be applies to other aspects of their lives.
