My students will use these mentor texts as examples that they can relate to in their daily lives. We will read these texts weekly and use the story to connect to themes such as respecting differences, using appropriate voice levels, how to apologize, how to create conversations with those who are by themselves at recess, being independent problem solvers, and so much more!
Teaching social emotional learning is as important as teaching reading and math in the classroom these days! Using mentor texts to teach these valuable skills will help my students to become reliable, respectful, and responsible citizens in their community.
