My students would learn coding and robotics, a 21st century skill, through a variety of manipulatives such as the Dash and Dot robots, the Sphero, an iPad and the Ozobot Bit. Offering a variety of resources and ways to do things makes the learning more engaging and meaningful. They would learn collaboration, teamwork, patterning, directions, and programming skills. All of these are vital skills in today's work force.
We live in a technology driven world and students today will need coding skills to succeed in a competitive work environment. If I can begin giving kindergarten students direction and skills for coding, they would be better prepared for the future.
The materials I am seeking are engaging and a fun hands-on way for students to learn coding in a collaborative environment. Through the use of apps on a tablet, markers on a tabletop, and inputting a series of patterns students are able to make the robots move and perform tasks. They will be able to use math, science, computer/technology, and even literacy skills while engaging in game-like tasks.
